Cynthia Edwards is an artist, designer and maker based in Cape Town. Lichen & Leaf has been an avenue through which to explore a creative itch, which recently has had a strong focus on ceramics and jewellery. Guided by memories of childhood, nostalgia, a sense of wonder at the world and the simplicity in connection with big open spaces, her work channels play into function – crafting connections with the user/wearer through the creative process and handmade nature of her products. She often finds herself inclined to learn a new skill and take on a new creative challenge, but only when she’s not too busy clambering around rocks on some or other mountain top.
